Surveillance capitalism is the accepted future of capitalistic society and both the UK and the US are experimenting with different ways (and sharing notes) on how it can be improved. I personally view it as the greatest danger to democratic values, and it seems to be swinging towards the extreme (Imperialism). China too has forced this on all its citizens.
That depends on whether you believe in majoritarian democracy or in consensus-based democracy where the democratic system mediates the negotiation of powers between different groups of society.
