Doesn't Subaru collaborate pretty closely with Toyota anyway? Toyota owns 20% of Subaru and they have several models which are outright rebadged or use shared platforms.
HN users keep claiming that EVs will be more reliable because they are mechanically simpler than ICE vehicles but the actual data generally indicates the opposite. It turns out that proper design and assembly quality matters a lot more than complexity.

Hard to actually compare manufacturers because you'd have to weight the per model costs. I've bought 4 second-hand Toyota's since reading that and my personal experience has been reliability and that Toyota part costs are reasonable and mechanics are affordable and they like to work on Toyotas. I've bought 96 high mileage 4WD still going great, 2006 van going great, 2011? station wagon which I've now sold, 96 high mileage station wagon (used for commute every day by cousin - going great).
Anybody know of any better source of information, based on real maintenance cost measurements?
They weren't measuring maintenance costs, they were measuring reliability. Two entirely different things. It's not bullshit just because they weren't measuring the thing you care about more.

Misleading title. They are still the second and third most reliable, according to the FA.
