Beyond probably biased reporting, this kind of "joke" would have drawn stinging reprimands in the past. Where's the outrage and declarations of freedom of religion from Douthat, Yglesias, Weiss and Fox News?

In practice, if he were to penalize individual religions or churches, I'm pretty sure he will run into revolt, so I wouldn't worry about it. Similar to all the awful ICE stuff etc., the American public pushes back and the administration adjusts and recalibrates.
I dunno, this seems like something that if Biden or Obama or even G.W. Bush had said, there'd be a week of reporting. Shows what lapdogs the press have become, and makes me wonder about the utility of US style freedom of the press as well as how much it values any of the other freedoms.
