Since buying a new one is cheap and convenient unlike repairing one and also looks better, no one repairs clothes anymore so sewing machines are now mostly used in factories for mass production of clothing
Lots of people still buy good quality clothing and repair it. Not as many as there used to be, but the market exists. Five of my friends own and use sewing machines for this purpose.
