I'm also pondering routes out. While there's a year until the next academic year starts for postgraduate career switching possibilities, and I've got things I need to finish up this year so I can't jump immediately; I also no longer see a long term future in this industry. Maybe this will pass but I don't think the bell can be unrung.
I think the worst part is having Management and Business types telling us how to do Software Engineering, and then firing everyone when their ideas don't work.
Promote yourself to CEO of your own company, and get the co-workers you work well with on board. Thats what all the greats did. HP, Microsoft, Google, Apple, etc.
Just don't tell management. Fight club needs corporate sponsorship. :D
